Gurukula Children Shine at Local Diwali Celebrations

This month, children... - Gurukula - The Hare Krishna Primary School | Facebook: This month, children from Gurukula-The Hare Krishna Primary School were invited to take part in two community Diwali events. On 11th October, the children did kirtan and danced in a parade at the Watford Diwali festival in front of devotees from Bhaktivedanta Manor who were doing harinama. On 18th October, the Gurukula children were invited by Cllr Tushar Kumar, Deputy Mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood, to participate the Elstree and Borehamwood Diwali Festival organised by the local town council. The children opened the event by leading kirtan and this was followed by a year 6 student from Gurukula performing a graceful solo Bharatnatyam dance 'Sri Rama'. There were over 500 people at the event in Alum hall. Cllr Kumar presented an award and certificates to the children who participated and commented in an email to the Gurukula headteacher that ' It was an honour to have Gurukula open the Diwali Festival with such a beautiful and soul-stirring kirtan. The children sang with such devotion and purity, it really set the tone for the day.' Some of the dignitaries who watched the children's performance at this persitious gathering were Ashok Kumar Chauhan MBE , Rakesh Kumar (Deputy Director of The Nehru Centre) and Rakesh Dahiya (High Commission of India, London). The Gurukula children enjoy serving by spreading Krishna consciousness through kirtan and drama and opportunities for this are regularly given through our curriculum.
