Indradyumna Swami's Homage to Agnideva Prabhu

I just heard that you have suddenly departed this world. There was no time to say goodbye, no time to properly express my love and appreciation for you before you left. I pray that through the transcendental medium, my words will somehow reach you. My dear Godbrother, from the very beginning of our movement you were always one of my favorite chanters of the holy names. Your kirtans and bhajans were sublimely simple, sweet, and full of devotion. With just a mṛdaṅga or karatālas, you could create an atmosphere that captured the hearts of all who were present. There was nothing artificial, nothing forced. You simply chanted and the holy name did the rest. Your voice carried sincerity and that sincerity touched the hearts of so many, including mine. I had the good fortune to meet you on several occasions and each time I felt a natural connection with you because we both loved kirtan so deeply. That shared taste created a bond that remains even now. You spent your life serving Srila Prabhupada through the holy names and that service is eternal. Your kirtans remain with us and they will continue to inspire devotees for generations to come. In that sense your presence will always be felt. Still I have to admit it is becoming increasingly lonely. These days it feels as though Srila Prabhupada’s disciples are departing one after another in quick succession. We know your destination is auspicious and that you are surely being welcomed wherever Srila Prabhupada has called you. Here however your absence is deeply felt. You and so many others were pioneers in the truest sense of the word by giving your entire lives in service to Srila Prabhupada. Now that chapter is gradually drawing to a close and a new era is beginning. Those of us who remain behind must continue strengthened by your example of a profound taste for chanting the holy names. Goodbye for now my friend. Surely our shared love for the holy names will reunite us once again. We are all left with your kīrtans resounding in our hearts and that is a priceless treasure we will always cherish. Your servant, Indradyumna Swami
