Is the TOVP Design ‘Vedic’?
Over the last seventeen years of construction, we have heard and read many comments asking whether the TOVP design is Vedic. Such comments have focused on both the interior and exterior of the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium, and usually express some level of complaint and dissatisfaction.
While the word ‘Vedic’ is itself rather vague and can refer to any number of temple-related structural concepts (many of which are, in fact, included in the TOVP design), Srila Prabhupada himself gave very specific and innovative structural instructions for the TOVP that may be considered out of the ordinary according to Vedic concepts. In fact, he visualized and conceived of the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium within the context of the popular term, “East Meets West”.
