5 Days of Diwali - YouTube

5 Days of Diwali - YouTubeIn this video, Kripamoya Prabhu explains the significance of each of the five days of Diwali as celebrated in Vaishnava tradition. The first day marks Dhanvantari Trayodashi, honoring Dhanvantari, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu who emerged from the ocean of milk and brought the knowledge of Ayurveda. The second day celebrates Narakasura Chaturdashi, commemorating the killing of the demon Narakasura by Lord Krishna and His consort Satyabhama. The third day is Amavasya, the darkest night, when Lakshmi, Goddess of Fortune, emerged from the ocean of milk. To welcome Her, households light rows of lamps, which is the origin of "Deepavali" or "Diwali." This day also celebrates the return of Lord Ramachandra to Ayodhya after 14 years in exile, greeted by citizens with lamps and fireworks. The fourth day, Govardhana Puja, honors Krishna's lifting of Govardhana Hill to protect Vrindavan from heavy rains sent by Indra. On this day, devotees celebrate with a "hill of food" or "Annakuta" offering to Krishna.
