Vyasa Puja is a once-a-year time when Devotees take the occasion to say something about their spiritual master. The Guru or spiritual master is not just a ceremonial place-holder or a title; it the person who helped guide you out of material existence. If you think material existence is just fine, you will not have any understanding of what we are talking about here or why Vyasa Puja is an important yearly event.
Material existence of life is what we were all doing before we realized that material life is hopeless and pointless. Moreover, it is strife ridden to the extent that some wish to end their lives. For Devotees, something jarred them from this mainstream progress towards nowhere. Then the spiritual master was the person whose words were the guide to the alternative to material life. His actions were the proof that an alternative to material life was possible. And when you watch these accounts, you will also hear how just being in the presence of a genuine spiritual master left a surprisingly large and indelible impression, far beyond what one would expect.
Vyasa Puja, then, is the hopes, gratitude, prayers, poems, retellings, plans, reports and glorifications of the Devotees, in this case compressed into 10-15 minute bite size chunks.
