Grand Inauguration of 1, Ultadanga Junction Road (21 Feb, 2022). (Album of photos)
In December 1918, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur inaugurated his first centre called ‘Calcutta Bhaktivinoda Asana’ in 1, Ultadingi Junction Road in North Kolkata. He started his preaching mission from this very place after coming from Sri Mayapur Dham. Later in 1920, he renamed the place as ‘Shri Gaudiya Math’. In 1922, a young Bengali named Abhay Charan De came to meet Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur. In that first meeting, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur encouraged that young man that he’s an educated person, he should spread the mission of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu in the West in English language. In 1933, Abhay Charan De took initiation from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur in Prayag. Later in 1959, he took sannyas from Srila Bhakti Prajnan Keshava Maharaj and became A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami. Following his guru’s order, he went to the West, established ISKCON, and spread the Krishna consciousness movement throughout the world. That place, 1, Ultadingi Junction Road, which holds so much importance for all Gaudiya Vaisnavas, was acquired and renovated by ISKCON Kolkata. Now, exactly a hundred years later from that historic meet, on the occasion of the 148th Appearance Day of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, that place had a grand inauguration. There were many dignitaries and senior Vaisnavas present to grace this occasion. Dr. Shashi Panja, the Minister of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare of West Bengal, did the grand inauguration. This is one of the biggest milestones achieved by ISKCON Kolkata with the extreme hard work of an amazingly dedicated team. Please relish the photographs.
