By Chaitanya Charana Dasa Though Prabhupada was present for only the first eleven years of ISKCONs fifty-year history he continues to guide and inspire his followers to expand what he began. Its an astonishing story. If someone told you a story like this you wouldnt believe it. Heres this person hes seventy years old hes going to a country where hes never been before he doesnt know anybody there he has no money has no contacts. He has none of the things you would say that make for success. Hes going to recruit people not on any systematic basis but just picking up whomever he comes across and hes going to give them responsibility for organizing a worldwide movement. Youd say What kind of program is that? There are precedents perhaps. Jesus of Nazareth went around saying Come follow me. Drop your nets or leave your tax collecting and come with me and be my disciple. But in his case he wasnt an old man in a strange society dealing with people whose backgrounds were totally different from his own. He was dealing with his own community. Sayana Ekadasi | Ramai Swami. The saintly king Yudhishthira Maharaj said Oh Keshava what is the name of that Ekadasi that occurs during the light fortnight of the month of Ashadha (June July)? Who is the worshipable Deity for the auspicious day and what is the process for observing this event? Lord Sri Krishna replied Oh caretaker of this Earthly planet I shall gladly tell you a wonderful historical event that the deva lord Brahma once narrated to his son Narad Muni. One day Narad Muni asked his father What is the name of the Ekadasi that comes during the light part of the month of Ashadha much as you did? Kindly tell me how I should observe this Ekadasi and thus please the Supreme Lord Sri Vishnu. Lord Brahma replied Oh great saintly orator O best of all sages Oh purest devotee of Lord Vishnu your question is as usual excellent for all mankind. There is nothing better than Ekadasi the day of Lord Sri Hari in this or any other world. It nullifies even the worst sins if observed properly. For this reason I shall tell you about this Ashadha-shukla Ekadasi. Fasting on this Ekadasi purifies one of all sins and fulfills all ones desires. Therefore whoever neglects to observe this sacred fast day is a good candidate for entering into hell. Ashadha-shukla Ekadasi is also famous as Padma Ekadasi. Just to please the Supreme Lord Hrishikesha the master of the senses one should fast on this day. Deva-sayani or Vishnu-sayani indicates the day when Lord Vishnu goes to sleep with all the devas (demigods). It is said that after this day one should not perform any new auspicious ceremonies until Devotthani Ekadasi (Haribodhini (Probodhini) Devotthaani (Uttana) Ekadasi) which occurs during the month of Kartika (October November) because the devas (demigods) being asleep cannot be invited to the sacrificial arena and because the Sun is traveling along its Southern course (Dakshinayanam). My fervent desire is that you travel in schools and colleges and impress them with our philosophy and try to introduce our books as far as possible. Writing children's stories based on Srimad Bhagavatam is good idea but your first business is to move in the schools and colleges and lecture there and introduce the books already published. Not that you should confine yourself to Pittsburgh and New Vrindaban. And to depend on the centers for bus fare is not very good. Sannyasi means that you should depend on Krishna. When Devananda Swami was lecturing in the schools in Boston he was getting $25 to $75. So why not meet your expenses in that way? So far as eating only two chopaties and a little vegetables daily I never said that. I do not know why such news has spread without my written authority. One should eat as much as he requires. He should not over-eat that is the point. Without eating properly how can we work? If one can digest them then he can eat 20 chopaties but if he cannot digest then he should not even take two chopaties. The ayurvedic system is to take of what you can eat only the fill with water and leave for air. That will make for proper digestion. Little rice dahl some vegetables some chopaties like that but eat right to the point to keep health steady. So far as $50.00 fee for initiations that same question was raised when you were in L.A. ISKCON Noida brahmacaris visit Nepal Padayatra June 23 2023 By Dayal Gopal dasa (Nepal Padayatra leader) I had a nice experience when a group of Noidas full-time devotees recently spent seven days with the Nepal Padayatra. It was a precious time. Where would I get such an opportunity to be with full-time devotees for a week? By the mercy of Sri Guru and Gauranga I got their association and liked it very much! I felt good as there was no duplicity no reservation we were all brahmacaris together as a team new devotees senior devotees and also experienced devotees. The visiting devotees brought prasadam with them from Noida. Such prasadam I have missed a lot. It had kachori and so many other things I dont even know the names. I heard from other devotees about their experiences in their spiritual life. In difficult times we could seek shelter from such devotees. There are times when it gets hard to live with nearby devotees sometimes a little distance is required therefore it becomes easy to go to distant devotees to preserve our devotion and maintain good relationships with all devotees. As everybody has various qualities such as some having smiling faces some being skilled in meditation some being good at preaching and some being full of talents so I got an opportunity to meet different devotees. We went to many places for darshan. We met Patri dasa ISKCONs regional secretary for Nepal. It was a wonderful experience being with my dear Godbrothers. I just want to say one thing: whenever devotees come together in a group to Nepal they should join padayatra for a few days. We can do padayatra in one or two villages in the mountains. As it is a good opportunity many new devotees could associate with us even if we do it in only one village. Preaching in Russia (video) Bhakti Vijnana Goswami: Srila Prabhupada arrived in Russia in 1971. The country was behind the iron curtain it means that practically nobody would be able to leave the country and go to the West and very few people were allowed to come into the country. But Soviet people were humble and spiritually thirsty. You may think that you are an atheist but deep inside you are a believer this is the nature of the soul. People feel emptiness in the heart if there is absolutely no religion. Prabhupada met professor Kotovsky but this visit was not successful from a material point of view. Then Syamasundara Prabhu met a young man Anatoliy who later became Ananta Shanti and brought him to Srila Prabhupada. After that Ananta Shanti started preaching. In 1977 Gopal Krisna Maharaj came to Moscow for the international book fair he brought BBT books. People were spiritually thirsty so they wanted to know about God Krisna consciousness was spreading like fire. KGB tried to stop it they imprisoned around sixty devotees and some devotees were placed in psychiatric hospitals where they got heavy psychotropic drugs. Kirtiraj Prabhu and Harikesh Maharaj started a very strong campaign all over the world Free Soviet Hare Krisnas. No one wanted to give up Hare Krisna and everyone would still preach despite all these dangers. The more pressure was there from the government the more devotees would preach. In the beginning of the ninetieth there was a huge Hare Krisna explosion a lot of new devotees came book distribution was very easy. There was a special radio station called Krisnaloka it was very popular in Moscow. Then in 1998 there was a crisis in Moscow half of the devotees left. When a spiritual organization becomes popular or big then there are a lot of blind followers they are a big burden for organization and for Krisna too.
